Lilac Cancer Support Ltd

Lilac is as small charity making an enormous impact on Health & Wellbeing in The Mid Ulster Area and also providing services to those affected by cancer since 2003.

We can only do this with the Support of the community through Volunteering and Fundraising.

Lilac recognises that they are part of a bigger picture and work with the statutory and community sector to provide additional services making Mid Ulster a healthy and happy place to live in.

Transport Services

Cancer patients need numerous journeys to and from hospital and this can be very stressful for both the patients and their family. LiLAC can organise transport to and from hospital appointments for those who have no method of transport.

This service can also be used to transport patients to and from medical appointments and to programmes run by LiLAC.

Support Groups

Support groups can bring together people facing similar issues, whether that’s illness, family problems or any life changes. Members of support groups often share experiences and advice. They feel less lonely, improve their coping skills and reduce depression and anxiety.

We offer rolling programmes such as: Breast cancer support group, Lilac gardening club, Knitting and crochet group, Yoga, Chi me and many more.

Recliner Chairs

At LiLAC we provide a provision of recliner chairs for the terminally ill. Recliner chairs can provide that little bit of extra comfort and support for patients to relax. All our chairs are full recliners with the rise to stand ability, and are fully electric for easy use.

Physical Activity

Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance your wellbeing. Participation in physical activity can increase your self-esteem and reduce stress and depression.

Yoga

Our yoga class can help you to improve overall quality of life and prevent physical or mental illnesses. It can be also way to find calm and peace during and after cancer treatment. It is an opportunity for you to learn simple movements and breathing exercises that are easy, effective and enjoyable.

Chi me

Chi me is a series of Tai Chi influenced exercise. It will help you if you’re low in energy or feeling physically fragile. Chi me can be easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to those confined to wheelchairs. People with learning difficulties, depression and those recovering from surgery will also gain benefits.

Information and Signposting

Sometimes when you are ill it is harder to make your voice heard especially when you need to communicate with new people such as health professionals and social services. Lilac is here to advocate and support you.

Lilac will listen to your concerns and provide you with the information to make decisions. We will contact people on your behalf and accompany you to appointments.

Where necessary we can signpost you to other statutory and community organizations when professional or statutory advocacy is required.

With our wealth of knowledge of support services available in The Mid Ulster Area Lilac, can connect you to alternative providers whenever we cannot help you.

Horticultural therapy

Horticultural therapy can help our clients to improve mental health and recover from a wide range of conditions. It is a good opportunity to connect with others and reduce feelings of isolation or exclusion.

Anyone who has spent time in a garden understands how therapeutic the experience can be. Gardens are peaceful, restorative places and being out in the fresh air while planting in one of life’s simplest and most rewarding pleasures.

Counselling

Counselling can improve your quality of life if you have a life long illness or suffered a bereavement you can talk in confidence about how you feel about yourself and your situation, supported by trained facilitator Ruth Wilson.

Complimentary Therapies

We offer a range of therapies to help alleviate the emotions and symptoms that often accompany the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Many users have reported that therapies help relieve conditions such as anxiety and fear, nausea, aches and pains, depression and insomnia. Therapies are designed to work alongside conventional treatment. The therapies we offer, all free of charge and include reflexology, massage and aromatherapy.

Coalisland & Loughshore Men’s Shed

Coalisland & Loughshore Men’s Shed is a service run by Lilac to support men who want to come together to share, care and learn new skills in a safe place.

It aims to prevent social isolation and help improve the well-being and mental health of all its male members.

Another core aim is to develop projects that will build and improve our local community.

Beauty Therapy

Beauty therapy helps reduce the effects of illness and helps aid recovery. It has an important therapeutic role in supporting individual self esteem and confidence. It also helps you to escape for a while from the pressures of life.

Our therapist is able to provide quality services to individuals to help them relax and get relief from pain. Lilac’s beauty therapist only use products that are natural with no harsh side effects before, during and after the cancer treatment.

Art Therapy

Working with the Ulster University, Lilac offers Art Therapy using art media as its primary mode of expression and communication.

Art Therapy helps you express emotion such as fear, anxiety, stress and depression when words fail. It also gives you time to relax and gives a greater sense of well-being.

Experience and skill in art are not needed.
