The Rehab Dietitian

The Rehab Dietitian provides specialist, personalised nutrition support before, during and after cancer treatment. Gina Giebner is an HCPC Registered Dietitian with over 20 years’ experience in gastrointestinal and oncology care, helping people manage treatment side effects, bowel problems, weight changes and recovery.

The Rehab Dietitian is a specialist private dietetic service led by Gina Giebner, an HCPC Registered Dietitian with more than 20 years’ experience in gastrointestinal nutrition and a current NHS oncology caseload.

Gina provides practical, evidence-based and compassionate nutrition support for adults preparing for, undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment. Every consultation is personalised to the individual’s diagnosis, treatment, symptoms, medical history, food preferences and personal goals.

Support is available for:

  • Preparing nutritionally for cancer surgery or treatment
  • Poor appetite, unplanned weight loss and difficulty maintaining strength
  • Nausea, taste changes, fatigue and other treatment-related eating difficulties
  • Diarrhoea, urgency, constipation, wind, bloating and unpredictable bowel habits
  • Digestive problems following pelvic or abdominal radiotherapy
  • Eating and bowel problems following cancer surgery, including bowel or stoma surgery
  • Pancreatic enzyme insufficiency and advice about pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy
  • Bile acid malabsorption, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and other treatable causes of ongoing bowel symptoms
  • Managing the nutritional effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy
  • Rebuilding strength, confidence and dietary variety after treatment
  • Healthy eating after cancer, including support with weight, heart health, diabetes and bone health
  • Understanding confusing or conflicting information about cancer and diet

Gina has a particular interest in the longer-term gastrointestinal and nutritional effects of cancer treatment. She supports people whose bowel symptoms may have been described as “just IBS” when they could be related to surgery, radiotherapy or other cancer treatments.

The service does not promote restrictive “anti-cancer” diets or unproven supplements. Advice is based on current clinical evidence and is designed to help people eat as well as possible while managing their symptoms and protecting their quality of life.

Who can access the service?

The service is available to adults affected by cancer. Support can be provided before, during or after treatment, including for people living with advanced cancer or experiencing long-term treatment effects.

A GP or hospital referral is not required. Family members or carers are welcome to join consultations where appropriate.

This is a private, fee-paying service. Please visit the website or contact Gina for current appointment options and prices.

Where is support available?

  • Online video consultations throughout the UK
  • Face-to-face appointments in Haddington, East Lothian
  • Face-to-face appointments in Selkirk, Scottish Borders
