At the North Highland Cancer Information & Support Centre in Thurso we offer emotional support and information about treatments and services to anyone affected by cancer in Caithness and Sutherland. We are a small independent charity that have been operating since 2008 and rely exclusively on the generosity of our local community through fundraising and donations.
The centre is open weekly and provides a free confidential service. At our premises members can expect to receive a friendly welcome and comfortable environment to provide some light relief and distraction. Our dedicated team of volunteers have a wealth of personal experience and can offer a sincere and confidential ear if needed. Also available within the centre is an extensive library of information on all types of cancer. If you need to find out information about any form of cancer or treatment, we will do our utmost to help you find what you seek.
For those wishing a bit of pampering or some relaxation we have a team of complementary therapists and a Beautician offering a range of treatments in the therapy room. Therapeutic treatments are available weekly with our qualified therapists through appointment and offer respite in a relaxed and comforting atmosphere.
In early 2024 we received a funding grant from Macmillan Cancer Support to take on 3 members of part-time staff to aid the committee in their aspirations of developing the charity further, by offering more opening days for drop-ins and organised workshops. Our intentions are to enhance the services that we currently offer so we can better provide for the increasing numbers of people who find themselves affected by cancer.
